5th BUP Rectors Conference 2018

Baltic Science Network will be presented during the CBSS Baltic Sea Science Day 2018 organised on the occasion of the 5th Baltic University Programme Rectors´ Conference and the 100th anniversary of Åbo Akademi University.

The main aim of the Baltic University Programme (BUP) Rectors’ Conference is to set the long term goals and strategies for the BUP network cooperation. This includes innovations in research, mobility and teaching as well as current societal challenges.  We will plan for future activities, in support for sustainable universities with excellent education, research and research education. The participants will be able to discuss and give feed back to the policy level, to the Council of the Baltic Sea States, and more specifically to the activities of the ongoing Baltic Science Network project.

The final programme for the 5th BUP Rectors’ Conference will be decided at the preparatory conference in Uppsala, Sweden, 9-10 October 2017.

The Baltic University Programme is a network of approximately 225 universities and other institutions of higher education throughout the Baltic Sea region. BUP was founded in 1991, and has since then been working as an international and inter-university network in the Baltic Sea Region. Today, BUP is one of the largest university network worldwide. During the first 25 years, BUP has organized and developed a number of university courses, supported interdisciplinary research cooperation, and participated in transdisciplinary projects in cooperation with authorities, municipalities and others. Close on 9000 students register to a BUP course every year.

BUP focuses on issues of sustainable regional development, environmental protection, and democracy in the Baltic Sea region. The network is coordinated by the Baltic University Programme Secretariat at Uppsala University, Sweden.

The conference is organised in cooperation with the BUP Secretariat at Uppsala University in Sweden and the BUP Associate Secretariat at Åbo Akademi University, Finland.
